What do authentication failed, unauthorized, and access denied errors mean?
Authentication and authorization errors are related to identity verification and access permissions.
Although the messages may appear similar, they describe different problems.
Authentication failed
This generally means that the system could not verify the identity associated with a request.
Possible causes include incorrect credentials, an expired session, invalid authentication information, or an interrupted sign-in process.
Unauthorized
This often indicates that a request lacks valid authentication or cannot be processed using the current authentication context.
Access denied or forbidden
This generally means that the requested action is not permitted for the current account, role, or workspace context.
A user may be signed in successfully but still lack permission to access a particular resource.
How to troubleshoot
1. Confirm that you are signed in with the correct account.
2. Check your current workspace.
The requested resource may belong to a different business workspace.
3. Review your permissions.
An authorized workspace administrator may need to verify your assigned role and access level.
4. Check whether your session has expired.
If appropriate, sign out and sign in again.
5. Review recent access changes.
A role modification, revoked membership, or changed integration permission may explain the error.
6. Check external authentication separately.
If the error originates from a connected application, the relevant integration may require renewed authorization.
Important security principle
Polyosync applies access boundaries between business workspaces.
A direct URL, shared link, or knowledge of a resource identifier does not grant permission to access that resource.
Do not attempt to bypass authorization restrictions or use another person's credentials.
When to contact Support
Provide the exact message, affected page or operation, expected access, and whether the issue began after a permission change.
If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, report the concern promptly through the appropriate support channel.
