How do login sessions work, and when should I sign out of Polyosync?

A login session allows Polyosync to recognize an authenticated user while they access the platform. Sessions are part of the authentication process and help determine whether a request is associated with an authenticated account. A session should not be confused with permanent authorization. What is an authenticated session? An authenticated session represents an established sign-in state. During the session, the platform can associate supported requests with the authenticated user. The session remains subject to the applicable authentication and authorization controls. Why might I be asked to sign in again? Possible reasons include: 1. The previous session has expired. 2. Authentication information is no longer valid. 3. The user signed out. 4. A browser or device change affected the session. 5. A security-related event requires renewed authentication. 6. The session could not be verified. 7. The authentication service experienced a temporary problem. The exact session duration and renewal behavior depend on the implemented authentication configuration. Should I sign out after using Polyosync? Yes, particularly when using a shared, public, or otherwise untrusted device. Signing out reduces the risk that another person will continue using your authenticated browser session. Is closing the browser the same as signing out? Not necessarily. Some authentication sessions can remain valid after a browser is closed. Use the platform's available sign-out functionality when you intend to end your session. Can I stay signed in on my personal computer? The appropriate practice depends on your organization's security policy and the security of the device. Even on a personal computer, the operating system should be protected with appropriate device authentication. What should I do before leaving my computer unattended? Lock your device. If the device is shared or untrusted, sign out of Polyosync before leaving it. Can an administrator end another user's session? Do not assume that remote session termination is available unless the relevant Enterprise interface explicitly provides it. For suspected account compromise, contact the appropriate administrator or Polyosync Support to determine the supported containment procedure. What if I keep getting signed out unexpectedly? 1. Check whether the issue occurs consistently. 2. Confirm that your browser is functioning normally. 3. Review whether browser privacy settings are interfering with authentication. 4. Check whether the issue occurs on another trusted browser. 5. Record any displayed error message. 6. Contact Support if the problem persists. Recommended practice Use the sign-out function when appropriate, secure your devices, and treat unexpected session behavior as a problem worth investigating.
