Why is my integration connected but not working correctly?

An integration may appear connected while individual operations fail or produce unexpected results. A successful connection confirms that an authorization or configuration step has been completed. It does not necessarily guarantee that every supported operation has the required permissions, valid configuration, or access to the intended external resources. Why can this happen? Possible causes include: 1. Missing permissions for a specific operation. 2. External records that are unavailable or inaccessible. 3. Incorrect resource identifiers or configuration values. 4. Expired or revoked authorization credentials. 5. Provider-side API restrictions. 6. Rate limits or usage quotas. 7. Temporary network or provider failures. 8. Changes to the external account or its permissions. 9. Invalid data submitted to the external service. 10. An operation that is not supported by the integration. How to identify the problem Step 1: Determine which operation is failing. Identify whether the issue affects retrieving information, creating records, updating data, or another supported action. Step 2: Check whether other operations work. If some operations succeed while others fail, the issue may involve operation-specific permissions or configuration. Step 3: Verify the external resource. Confirm that the record, calendar, account, or other resource exists and is accessible to the authorized external account. Step 4: Review the integration configuration. Check relevant settings and resource identifiers for incorrect or outdated values. Step 5: Review the external account permissions. The connection may be authorized without having access to every resource or action. Step 6: Inspect available error details. Look for authentication errors, permission failures, invalid requests, or provider-specific messages. Step 7: Check external service availability. Some operations may be temporarily unavailable during provider incidents. Step 8: Test with a controlled operation. Use a low-risk test that does not modify important business records. Step 9: Review the result. Confirm that the external service received and processed the intended operation. Does a connected status guarantee that data is synchronizing? No. Connection status and successful data exchange are different conditions. Does reconnecting always solve the problem? No. Reauthorization may help when credentials are expired or permissions have changed, but it will not necessarily resolve invalid configuration, missing resources, or unsupported operations. What if only one business process is affected? Investigate the configuration and external dependencies of that process before changing the entire integration. Recommended approach Troubleshoot the specific failing operation rather than assuming the complete connection is broken.
