What is the principle of least privilege, and how should it be applied in Polyosync?

The principle of least privilege means granting users, applications, and automated systems only the access reasonably necessary to perform their authorized responsibilities. It is an important security practice for organizations using Polyosync. Why is least privilege important? Excessive permissions can increase the impact of accidental actions, configuration mistakes, or compromised accounts. For example, an employee who only needs to review operational results should not automatically receive permissions to modify integrations or manage other employees. How can organizations apply least privilege? Step 1: Identify the required task. Determine exactly what the user or system needs to accomplish. Step 2: Identify the required resources. List the information, tools, or operations necessary for the task. Step 3: Select the appropriate role. Use the available role that provides suitable access without unnecessary administrative authority. Step 4: Review integration scopes. Avoid granting external applications permissions that are unrelated to their intended purpose. Step 5: Review AI Employee capabilities. Ensure that an AI Employee only receives the knowledge and operational capabilities appropriate to its responsibilities. Step 6: Review automated workflows. Confirm that workflows operate within the intended business environment. Step 7: Reassess access regularly. Remove privileges that are no longer needed. Does least privilege apply to administrators? Yes. Administrative privileges should be assigned according to actual responsibilities. Not every person responsible for business operations needs unrestricted administrative access. Does least privilege apply to AI Employees? Yes. AI Employees should be configured with clearly defined responsibilities and appropriate access to knowledge, integrations, and operational capabilities. Does least privilege apply to external integrations? Yes. Where the external provider supports permission scopes, organizations should grant only the scopes necessary for the intended integration. Can least privilege prevent every security incident? No. It reduces certain risks but does not replace authentication security, workspace isolation, monitoring, or appropriate incident response. Recommended practice Begin with the minimum access required and expand permissions only when there is a legitimate operational need.
