What is the difference between Human Handoff and AI Collaboration in Polyosync?

Human Handoff and AI Collaboration are related but distinct capabilities within Polyosync. Both support coordinated business operations, but they involve different participants and serve different purposes. What is AI Collaboration? AI Collaboration allows AI Employees to work together when a task requires multiple responsibilities or areas of expertise. For example, one AI Employee may identify that another AI Employee is better suited to perform a specific part of a task. The second AI Employee can contribute its result, allowing the broader activity to continue. Polyosync also supports structured collaboration orchestration involving participants, tasks, dependencies, and shared outputs. What is Human Handoff? Human Handoff involves transferring or escalating an activity to a human when the situation requires human attention, judgment, or authorization. Instead of delegating the task to another AI Employee, the process involves an authorized person. What is the main difference? AI Collaboration coordinates work between AI Employees. Human Handoff coordinates the transition from AI-powered processing to human involvement. When should AI Collaboration be used? AI Collaboration may be appropriate when: 1. Another AI Employee has relevant operational responsibilities. 2. A task requires multiple AI capabilities. 3. Work can be divided into dependent or parallel activities. 4. The task remains within the authority of the configured AI workforce. When should Human Handoff be used? Human Handoff may be appropriate when: 1. A customer requests human assistance. 2. An action requires human approval. 3. A request exceeds the AI Employee's authority. 4. An exceptional situation requires human judgment. 5. The automated process cannot proceed reliably. Can both capabilities be used in the same process? Yes. A business process may involve several AI Employees collaborating before a situation requires human intervention. For example, an AI Employee may collect a customer request, another may prepare the necessary information, and a human employee may make the final approval decision. Does AI Collaboration eliminate the need for Human Handoff? No. Additional AI capabilities do not replace human authorization or judgment where those are required. What is the advantage of having both? Businesses can coordinate routine work across AI Employees while preserving appropriate human involvement. This supports a more flexible operational model in which tasks are handled by the participants best suited and authorized to complete them.
