What is the difference between Automations and Autonomous Workflows in Polyosync?

Polyosync provides both Automations and Autonomous Workflows because businesses need different approaches to executing work. The key difference is how the work is organized. Automations are primarily configuration-driven. Autonomous Workflows are objective-driven. How do Automations work? With Automations, a business configures triggers and execution steps. These can include conditions, AI-assisted activities, delegation, supported tools, and actions. The automation follows its configured execution structure. This is particularly useful for recurring activities with known operational requirements. How do Autonomous Workflows work? With Autonomous Workflows, a business defines an objective and selects an AI Workforce. The orchestrator evaluates progress, determines suitable tasks, coordinates AI Employees, and continues working within configured limits. The sequence of work can evolve based on execution results. When should I use Automations? Use Automations when you know the required steps and want them executed consistently. For example, a recurring operational activity that needs to follow established rules may be better suited to an Automation. When should I use Autonomous Workflows? Use Autonomous Workflows when you have a defined outcome but the intermediate work may require evaluation, coordination, and adaptation. For example, investigating a business problem and producing a structured assessment may involve several tasks whose exact sequence depends on the findings. Can both work together? Yes. Polyosync's autonomous orchestration engine supports execution through existing automations. This allows configured automation capabilities to contribute to broader objective-driven work. Which is better? Neither is universally better. Automations provide structured, predictable execution. Autonomous Workflows provide adaptive, objective-driven orchestration. Polyosync offers both so businesses can select the appropriate operating model instead of forcing every process into the same automation approach.
