How do I define steps and dependencies in a business process?

Steps and dependencies determine how work progresses through a business process. A step represents an activity that contributes to the process objective. A dependency defines a relationship between activities, such as requiring one task to finish before another can proceed. Why are dependencies important? Many business activities must happen in a specific order. For example, a business should normally collect and validate required customer information before preparing a final onboarding package. Without clear dependencies, activities may begin without the information they need. How should I structure the steps? Start by identifying the main outcome. Break the process into meaningful activities and determine what information each one requires. Then identify which activities depend on the completion of earlier work. For each step, consider: - The business purpose of the activity. - The information required to begin. - The AI Employee or capability responsible. - The expected output. - Any preceding activities that must be completed. Can independent activities run at the same time? Polyosync supports parallel task execution within its collaboration orchestration capabilities. Independent activities may be coordinated in parallel where the relevant execution configuration supports it. This can reduce unnecessary waiting between tasks. What happens when a dependency is not satisfied? A dependent activity should not be treated as ready until its required conditions are satisfied. The exact execution outcome depends on the process configuration and the status of the preceding activities. Polyosync uses structured coordination to help businesses organize multi-step operations with clearer execution relationships and fewer unnecessary manual handoffs.
